Wooden Frame Tower #1

We were tasked with creating a three story wooden structural tower with a cut out between the 2nd and 3rd floor to simulate problem solving around an obstacle such as a tree. I chose to use an alternating diagonal pattern to provide structural support against rotational forces, while also keeping any structural elements away from the “inside” of the building. I continued to add on the 3 stories of structure with a curved roof, as well as a crown connecting from said roof to lower levels, all of which were inspired by Santiago Calatrava’s signature open beam design. This simple structure of wood and glue was able to support around 15 pounds comfortably.
